Director’s Voice II

Summertime… and the living is easy… but the singing is tough!

I wanted to take this opportunity to update all of our friends, supporters and members about all of the exciting musical happenings underway at the St. Sava Choir.

With the SSF Festival now behind us, our choir has begun to rehearse pieces for our 2004 – 2005 Season. As the director, I always find it difficult to select music that not only challenges us as a choir, vocally, but also reflects our current mind set. Looking through copious amounts of music I found pieces where each voice section performs within their range and beyond.

In thinking about the themes of our pieces I had a few key considerations in mind. Firstly, I felt it important for our choir to learn a few new liturgical pieces, since we are a liturgical choir. Secondly, I felt we should recognize the 200th Anniversary of the Serbian Uprising and the 50th Anniversary of our choir, and thirdly, I wanted to include a secular piece that was remarkable in both its’ composition and in its’ libretto.

Here’s a summary of what we’re currently working on, and trust me, we’re working extra hard. Attendance at rehearsals is remarkably high and our membership is excited, focused and committed to learning and singing all of these pieces to the best of their abilities.

Lithurgical Music

Secular Music

Of course none of this would be possible without the blessings from above for which our choir remains most humbly thankful, and for the kindness support and love of our families, friends and supporters.

We wish everyone a relaxed summer, and we hope you join us in church or at one of our upcoming fundraising events this fall.
