the first thing the Board did was create a new “mission” statement for our choir. The “mission” statement has the effect of focusing our Board correctly in the direction we believe our choir should grow toward.
Here is that statement: “To excel in singing responses to the holy liturgy and all other church services”
The attendance will now be recorded at every practice and every church service we sing at. We need to monitor closely who attends and when, because we will need to classify our singers into “regular” and “supporting” members. This will also help us to know on whom we can count on, and whom we cannot.
As reported at our annual meeting on January 29th, our financial position is not strong. The Board is going to meet with our church’s Board of Directors in the next six to eight weeks (once a new church Board is elected) to address this issue, to see if we can get some assistance.
We have 3 weddings. They are April 28/07, 3 pm in our church ; May 12/07, at 2:30 pm in our church (and June 2/07 at 12:00 noon in Milton .
What services will we be prepared to sing for this year? At the very minimum, will we be ready for Palm Sunday/Cveti, for Good Friday/Veliki Petak, and for Pascha/Uskrs?
We were invited by our kumovi choir to attend their annual concert on September 8th and 9th. That happens to be our church slava weekend and we’ll have to decline, but before we do, the Board would like to suggest two other weekends that might be fine for us. But we can’t do this because we cannot get commitments from our choir members. A proper response to the Petar Krstic Choir has yet to be sent, and we’re late.
As you know, we’re scheduled to hold our annual concert during the weekend of October 13th and 14th. Are you available? Will you be attending practice? Will you be able to help? You’ve got to let us know. Rade Micic and Lidija Borojevic are co-chairing the annual concert, so they need everyone’s support.
The Board will be reviewing and amending the by-laws so we can focus on achieving our new mission statement. Of course, once the by-laws have been redrafted, they will have to be sent to each of our voting members, so they can be formally and properly adopted at a general meeting. Bojan Bujak is chairing this initiative.
As far as communication is concerned, we believe our initial one-on-one phone calls over the next while will serve to “wake up” our members. Second, and from the suggestion of one of our members, we’ll be placing a “suggestion” box in our choir loft, so those who wish to remain anonymous, can suggest improvements, etc. Third, we’ll be calling a general meeting of our members in the spring to report more formally on items
